Caregivers may visit their children at any time, in accordance with building volunteer and visitor policies. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in classroom activities. The instructional staff will welcome all caregivers, visitors, observers, and Early Education administrative staff to the classroom.

DPS Volunteer Services-Background Check Process
To comply with the district policy on Parent, Non-parent/Community, Teen, and Episodic Volunteers, visit the DPS Volunteer Services page to determine the correct process, if needed. For questions or more information, contact DPS Volunteer Services.
CDEC Regulations for Volunteers
If volunteers are used by the center, there must be a clearly established policy regarding their function, orientation, and supervision. ECE classrooms must maintain a record of the hours worked by regular volunteers.
Volunteers Used in Ratio: Volunteers who are used to meet staff to child ratios at any time must qualify as an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT), Assistant Early Childhood Teacher (AECE), or Staff Aide, and have a complete Licensing File* on site, including DPS ECE background checks (these are in addition to those completed by DPS Volunteer Services). *Note this file checklist differs from the one used by ECE staff; it has been modified for individuals who do not work for Denver Public Schools.
Volunteers Not Used in Ratio: Volunteers who are not counted in ratio do not need to complete any additional background checks. They must be supervised, never left alone with children, and given instruction as to the center’s policies and procedures.
Age Restrictions: ECE classroom volunteers between the ages of 12 and 16 must have a written purpose developed by the teacher for volunteering and may not volunteer more than two (2) hours per day. Volunteers under the age of 12 are not permitted.
